Refrigerator Tips

The refrigerator is one of the more power heavy electrical appliance that is turned on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Read more to learn some useful tips on how to make sure that your refrigerator isn't using up more power than it should be.

  • The refrigerator door seal must be checked on a yearly basis. Place a ringgit note and close the door. If you can pull the note out easily, you need to replace the gasket as it means that the door isn't efficient in keeping the cooled air in.
  • Keep the refrigerator temperature between 3°C and 5°C. It works most efficiently in a cool environment so do not place it next to a window or a stove. A grimy condenser coil can raise energy usage by 30%, so keep it dust and oil-free.
  • Do not overload the refrigerator or freezer; cold air needs to circulate freely to keep food at a proper temperature. Leave hot food out to cool before storing it in the refrigerator or freezer.
  • 30% of cooled air will escape every time the refrigerator is opened (the same rule goes for an oven), so try not to open it unnecessarily.
