What is kWh?

kWh (kilowatt-hour) is a unit of measurement in electrical applications

Your electricity consumption depends on the power (kW) used by an appliance multiplied by the time the appliance is in use.

Some appliances use a lot of power, but are seldom in use. For example, electric kettles or microwave ovens use 1–2 kW (1,000–2,000 W), but are not used that many times in a year.

On the other hand, standby consumption can be high because, although the power used by individual appliances is low (e.g. 10W), the appliances are on standby virtually all year.
